About Voyage East
Voyage East creates cultural journeys and private experiences for travellers who want a more thoughtful way into China.
I'm Noah. I grew up between the UK and China — fluent in both, fully at home in neither, which turns out to be the most useful vantage point for this kind of work. I spent years in fashion and in advertising, helping major Chinese brands reach audiences abroad, and learning exactly where one culture reads clearly to another and where it quietly gets lost.
Voyage East grew out of a frustration: watching well-travelled friends arrive in China and bounce off it. Not because China isn't extraordinary — because the first layer is hard to get through alone. The payments, the language, the scale, the feeling that the interesting things are happening just out of reach.
So I built the thing I wished existed: a way to travel China with the ease of having a local friend, without losing the independence of travelling on your own terms.
Working alongside me in Shanghai is Coco, who runs our operations and trusted local partners across Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou. She knows the people behind every experience we offer — the tea masters, the embroiderers, the garden guides — and makes sure each one holds up in person. Between us we sit on both sides of the same trip: I shape it from the outside in, Coco makes it real on the ground.
Our journeys run in small fixed-date groups because depth needs company and pace — and because the best of China opens for ten people in a way it never will for fifty. We open China one region at a time, in depth: Hangzhou is Chapter One, with more regions following one chapter at a time.
The value is not more activity. It is knowing what is worth doing, explaining why it matters, and making sure the people on the ground can deliver it to Voyage East standards.
Noah turns local practice into context a foreign traveller can actually use before and during the trip.
Coco checks the people, timing and on-the-ground reality behind each experience we recommend.
Our planning fee is shown separately from hotels, transport, tickets, guides and supplier costs.
Payment, maps, transport, language and etiquette are treated as part of the journey, not as an afterthought.
